Blindfold tactics and visualization: Listudy vs Peekchess

Blindfold tactics train you to play a line you can't see on the board. Listudy's Blind Tactics are free and close to the idea behind Peekchess: you see the board a few moves before the tactic, and have to play the rest in your head. The difference is what you look at while you do it. I'm a chess coach and I built Peekchess, so read this knowing that. I've tried to be fair.

1. From a list of moves, or over the board?

Listudy writes the moves out and leaves the board where it was, so you picture the new position from a list of moves. That's close to blindfold chess, and blindfold chess is just a party trick. In a game the board is in front of you: you calculate over the position you can see. In Peekchess the board freezes and the moves land as arrows on it, 2 to 12 moves deep. Why blindfold chess is just a party trick

2. Is it only checkmates?

Listudy's blind tactics are all checkmates. Peekchess covers every tactical pattern, including the openings you play.

3. Is visualization enough?

Listudy trains visualization, seeing the position, and nothing else. Peekchess trains all four steps of calculation: spotting the moment, listing forcing moves, calculating and judging the end.

4. Does it explain why a move works?

Listudy shows the solution's moves and nothing more. Peek AI explains every move in plain words.

5. What stats do you get?

Listudy keeps achievements in your browser, with no history. Peekchess gives you detailed puzzle stats, and a free report on where you lose your games.
