Chess visualization app: Don't Move Until You See It vs Peekchess
A chess visualization app should train you to see the line over the board in front of you, because that's what a game asks. It's the skill that catches a blunder before you play it. Don't Move Until You See It is Aiden Rayner's chess visualization training: a membership, a podcast and a free five-day course. I'm a chess coach and I built Peekchess, so read this knowing that. I've tried to be fair.

1. Should you train with the board hidden?
Most Don't Move exercises hide the board, so you hold the whole position in memory. In a game the board is in front of you: you calculate over the position you can see, without moving a piece. Peekchess trains exactly that. The board freezes and the moves land as arrows. Why blindfold chess is just a party trick
One of my students could hold a whole position blindfold, yet kept missing tactics with the board right in front of them. The pieces got in the way: what they saw on the board kept overruling the line in their head.
2. Is visualization enough?
Holding the board in your head matters, and it's at the heart of Peekchess. But a game also asks when to calculate, which moves to look at, and how the end stands. Peekchess trains all four steps of calculation, plus threat puzzles from your opponent's side.
3. How much do you get for the price?
Peekchess is $7.99 a month against $15, and lifetime is $59.99 against $350. For that you get over 20,000 puzzles, against just over 1,100 exercises.
4. Who picks your level?
Don't Move has levels you pick yourself, and nothing is rated. Peekchess picks every puzzle near your rating and gives you a daily lesson of puzzles from the openings you play.
5. What stats do you get?
Don't Move keeps a streak counter. Peekchess gives you detailed puzzle stats, and a free report on where you lose your games.

Don't Move Until You See It review: is it worth it?
For a visualization method from a specialist, with audio exercises and monthly group coaching, yes. If your rating is stuck because you miss tactics with the board in front of you, train seeing and calculating together, on puzzles at your level.
